The Journey

Maybe your child has a diagnosis. Maybe they don’t.
What you know is that most days are a struggle.
I have been there.
Teachers have teams to collaborate with to figure out plans, routines and approaches for challenging kids. Every parent deserves someone on their team who can work with them to understand their kid better.
Who do you have?
I am not here to judge or tell you what you “should” do.
I’m here to be a sounding board, another perspective and to ask the right questions that will lead you to insights and sustainable solutions.
I’m so glad you’re here.

How I Help

I help parents by establishing a partnership and using principles of enablement to discover solutions to everyday family function.

Building Trust

Building trust and boundaries early on is essential to a happy home.

Patterns

Are your child’s patterns beginning to have an impact on your mental health?

Relationships

If you and your teen are struggling to make it work, I can help mend the relationship.

  • Intake – Interview and information gathering via discussion. We will start by discussing “where it’s at” – the current state of the situation: what it looks like and how you feel about it.
  • Analysis
    • Observation or description of the area you would like to change, you may provide videos or just describe the issue.
    • Assessment of current performance in the area that you want to target.
  • Coaching once a week for 4-12 sessions in a private or group format.
    • Sessions involve information sharing between client and Jill. They work in partnership to assess effectiveness and ease of implementation and continue to assess satisfaction with outcomes. By asking curious questions, Jill will guide you to finding solutions.
  • By the end of our time, you will feel satisfaction regarding your own performance on whatever you have targeted as the area of change. You’ll feel like, “yeah, this is where it’s at!”
What does coaching cost?

The initial 30 minute session is 100% free and complimentary to you. It will let you know what to expect from the coaching process. It will also help you decide if you would like to continue using this approach and if we are the right fit to work together.

I'd like to meet in-person but I don’t have childcare. Can I bring my kids to a session?

Let Jill know and she can arrange a babysitter to play in the office space with your child while we meet in the next room.

Does insurance cover this type of thing?

No, insurance does not typically pay for coaching. Individuals will need to cover the fees out of pocket. If cost is an issue, contact Jill for sliding scale fees.

I am so done with virtual meets. Can we meet in person?

Absolutely. I have office space available at an OT clinic in Ithaca. I am also happy to come to your home if you feel comfortable with that.

How does this differ from counseling from a social worker or coaching from other individuals like life coaches or educators?

I am an occupational therapist, and while coaching isn’t traditional direct occupational therapy, I am an expert in what motivates and enables people to do the things they want or need to be able to do. I bring an understanding of neuroscience, sensorimotor and motivation unique to me from my OT practice. I have been further trained in coaching methods. My desire is only to help people feel more empowered to take on the tasks that they need to do and build self-efficacy in finding their own solutions. If at any time I feel your needs are beyond the scope of what we can do in coaching, we will have a conversation about referrals to the appropriate services.

"Jill is my 'go to' girl.' She has the unique ability to view challenging situations with focus, love, and the whole child in mind. She has helped me countless times. "Jill offers good suggestions, but more she engages in a conversation, asking poignant and insightful questions. The discussions greatly helped me to understand and clarify for myself areas to concentrate on. When we were done, we worked on making notes together - as a shared way of remembering key ideas to hold to. Jill is friendly, smart, engaged, easy to talk to, and an enormous help. I highly recommend working with her."

"Jill helped me problem solve how to best support my son with social and sensory needs. She asked questions that brought forth potential barriers to my sons success and highlighted areas where we could make small adjustments to our routine or daily plans to set him up for success. Her warmth, wealth of knowledge and understanding left me feeling heard, validated and confident with what I needed to do next!"
